Paying the Way

Every year, a large number of athletes travel to the World Rowing Championships to represent the USA. What often goes unnoticed is that many of these athletes are paying their own way, covering travel, accommodations and equipment costs. Between the naming date and the start of Worlds, athletes have about three weeks to raise $3000 or more. It’s no easy task, but between personal savings and fundraising efforts, they somehow make it happen.

Over the summer, I spent some time with the USA Lightweight Men’s Eight during practices and took some photographs to help with their fundraising efforts. Here is the full set of images taken. (The LM8+ went on to win a silver medal at Worlds.)

Enjoy!
