It usually happens that just when I feel completely confident in my own skills and abilities, something will come along and completely pull me out of my comfort zone.
That’s exactly what happened last week, when Janel Gehring, (lightweight rower, and now Yale coach, Colin Farrell’s older sister) asked me to photograph her newborn daughter, Josephine.
I was thrilled to try my hand at something new. I researched different baby shots, played around with different techniques, debated different backgrounds, and imagined all the different angles I could try. I felt completely prepared.
Last week I showed up at Janel’s house ready to take charge. Of course I forgot one tiny little detail. When you’re working with a 3-month-old baby, there’s only one person in charge, and it’s usually not any of the grown-ups.
I’ve never done a photo-shoot which was completely dictated by somebody else’s eating, sleeping, crying and pooping schedule. But there you have it.
It just goes to show, just when you think you know what you’re doing, and are completely confident in your abilities, (dare I say, even a little overconfident,) there’s nothing like a 3-month-old baby to put you back in your place. And that’s probably a good thing.
Thank you Josephine!
Thank you,
very interesting article
Nicely article
thank you, very interesting idea
I agree with your view in this article. But generally, there are obstacles everytime and it is challenging. Am sure the best comes out during that time.
I like your website. Great photographs! Godspeed!
